On the 20th and on the 21stof November 2015 the activities of the “Walls And Integration: Images Of Europe Building” (WAI) project, financed within the Europe For Citizens Program, officially began. The head institution of this project is the Municipality of Macerata and the local partners are the cultural association Osservatorio di Genere (Gender of Observatory), as the scientific coordinator, and the ITC “Gentili” Institute, a school of Macerata. The WAI project, that lasts 18 months, from the 5th of October 2015 to the 4th of April 2017, is in scheduled-activities divided in events. These activities will be organized by the partners of the project.
These two first dates fall within the Event 3, titled “Images of Europe”, that will also house the final
conference that will take place in March 2017. The workshop of 21stof November 2015 took place in the auditorium of the ITC “Gentili” Institute of Macerata and represented the public launch of the WAI project. Two hundred and nineteen high-schools students of Macerata participated to the meeting. These schools joined the WAI project. They also will be the protagonists of the didactic activities in the city of Macerata from January to May 2016. They are: the ITC “Gentili” Institute, the Liceo Artistico, the Liceo Classico “G. Leopar-di”, the Liceo Scientifico “Galilei” and the Istituto Tecnico Agrario “Garibaldi”. The meeting began with the greetings of the master of the house, the school head Pierfrancesco Castiglioni. Then, the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Macerata Stefania Monteverde officially kick-started the event through a very fascitating speech directed to students. In her speech Stefania Monteverde highlighted importance of getting together and not remaining closed in classroomsreflect on past, on current and mainly on future situation of Europe: a collective dimension achieves always more meaning in the light of the mournful and tragic events of Paris. Soon after Clio Zancanella, a graphic designer of Trento, was awarded. She is the winner of the contest of ideas launched by the Municipality of Macerata for the realization of the logo of the project. She sent a video for thanking and for explaining how the idea of the logo was born. Experts and scholars confronted each other with the purpose of stimulating  the collective memory, of reflecting on the ideological divisions of the past, of proposing helpful keywords to comprehend the historical, political and social changes that led to the formation of contemporary Europe, focus-ing in particular on the period of time starting from the symbolic birth of Europe (1950) up to the first political elections of the European Parliament (1979).
